Welcome to MELD Purgatory
I’m documenting my time on the liver transplant waiting list. Not the hopeful, inspirational version you might expect – just the real one. (click for more)
Two years ago, I was added to the list with hope that a new liver would give me my life back. Since then, I’ve watched my body deteriorate while my MELD score refuses to climb high enough to matter. The harsh reality is that I’m probably going to die waiting.
This isn’t a blog about beating the odds or staying positive through adversity. It’s about what it’s actually like to waste away in a broken system where your score determines your worth, and most of us simply aren’t sick enough to matter until we’re too sick to save.
I’m writing this for the other people stuck in purgatory with me, for families watching their loved ones fade, and for anyone who wants to understand what “waiting for a transplant” really means.
Some days will be harder to write than others. Comments are welcome – from other patients, families, or anyone with something genuine to say.
Thanks for reading.
